Buxton Village Books is the oldest book store on Hatteras Island, and is quietly celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2009. The small Buxton Village Books store located in Buxton was originally a Pre-Civil War detached kitchen that was moved from Hatteras Village after the house it was adjacent to was burned down. Built out of shipwreck timbers that are still visible along the store’s ceiling, the building served many purposes throughout the years as a kitchen, a home, and even a general store.
Today, Buxton Village Books is home to an eclectic mix of local authors and guide books, kids’ books, new and used books, and journals and gift items. Owner Gee Gee Rosell, who started and has managed the bookstore for all of its 25 years, is an avid reader and expert on local authors, and hopes that the store will be a treasured local book shop for 25 years to come.
