Picture of the week

The Mirlo Beach Cottage Serendipity was transformed during the filming of “Nights in Rodanthe” to the Inn at Rodanthe. The Inn was one of the locations in the novel by Nicholas Sparks, and the location of several of the scenes in the movie with Richard Gere and Diane Lane.

“Nights in Rodanthe” From Hatteras to Hollywood

Outer Banks residents will be among the first to see the new Richard Gere and Diane Lane movie, “Nights in Rodanthe”, with a special pre-screening 2 days after the premier in New York City, and 2 days before the movie is scheduled to hit theaters nationwide and in Canada.
Based on the book by Nicholas Sparks, Nights in Rodanthe was filmed partly in Rodanthe at “Serendipity,” the most northern oceanfront home on Hatteras Island, and the location of the fictional inn that is the main setting of the book and movie. Locals and frequent visitors who have seen the early previews have been pleasantly surprised to see locales they know well, like the long stretch of NC Highway 12 in between the Bonner Bridge and Rodanthe, and glimpses of the Rodanthe Pier. Meet the Surf or Sound Realty Family

Say Cheese… and BBQ!
On Monday, September 15th, the entire Surf or Sound Realty staff gathered together at the newly renovated Salvo office for the annual group photo. While it can be a challenge to get so many people organized and smiling on cue, the photo went off without a hitch with almost three dozen smiling Surf or Sound faces.
After the photo shoot, the staff celebrated the wrap-up of another successful summer season with a barbecue and pot luck buffet on the Salvo office porch. This gave everyone a chance to relax, regroup, and get ready to welcome all the fall visitors, while swapping stories of a busy Hatteras Island summer.
The food and drinks hit the spot, and most everyone agreed that taking a group picture wasn’t a bad way to spend an evening at all, especially if there was barbecue involved!

Say ARRRRRR! on September 19!

In Honor of International Talk Like a Pirate Day on September 19th, we’d like to share this pirate slang dictionary, developed by the inventors of the holiday.

In 1995, for reasons unknown to the inventors, they began talking in pirate slang during a game of racquetball, and decided to parlay this phenomenon into a new world holiday. The concept was picked up by national columnist Dave Barry who thought the idea was brilliant, and the holiday evolved into a national event.
For a complete dictionary, visit the inventors’ website, www.talklikeapirate.com, so you can celebrate the holiday to its fullest, and don’t have to worry about sounding like a land lubber. Arrrggghh. Continue reading
