If your Hatteras Island vacation just so happens to coincide with Father’s Day, your family will be delighted to find that there are plenty of ways to celebrate dad’s day, both on and off the beach.
Consider the following Outer Banks activities when planning your special “Thank you” to the dads, brothers, and grandparents in your vacation party, or come up with a few creative ideas on your own, based on your guys’ favorite vacation activities. No matter how you celebrate, holidays are always a joy when you celebrate them island style.
Dining out: Most guys in the family appreciate a good beer and a great meal, and luckily there are plenty of great places on Hatteras Island to eat, from Rodanthe to Hatteras Village. Many local restaurants also have happy hour specials in the late afternoon, with great prices on steamed shrimp, wings, beer, and other surefire guy-pleasers.
Dining in: Everyone loves a home cooked meal, and with so many local seafood shops around, why not treat dad right by throwing him a seafood barbecue? Pick up a couple tuna steaks or the catch-of-the-day at a local seafood market, and head outdoors to the grill for a treat everyone in the family will love.
Head outdoors: If you dad is the adventurous type, why not treat him to a free lesson or equipment rental for a new watersport he has always wanted to try? Pick up a surfboard or kayak for the week at local rental shop, like Ocean Atlantic Rentals, or sign dad up for kiteboarding or windsurfing lessons through local watersports companies, like REAL Watersports or Kitty Hawk Kites.
Stay home and relax: Many of our vacation rental homes have dens, theater rooms, game rooms, and / or media rooms, and these places are always appreciated by dads. Pick up a couple DVDs from a local video store or from a vacation home’s movie library, grab some snacks, and let dad veg out in front of a good movie. Sometimes the best way to let dad enjoy his special day, is to let him sit back, take an afternoon off, and relax.
