There’s a lot to love about Valentine’s Day on Hatteras Island. If you’re planning a last minute Valentines’ getaway, you might want to check out these romantic, unique or just plain fun local events that are happening this weekend.
Celebrate with a dinner for two
Many local restaurants will open their doors for special multi-course dinners, or just a quiet night out for drinks and appetizers. Local favorites like Coastal Blue, Avon Café, Highway 12 Café, and The Inn on Pamlico Sound are all accepting reservations for a special Valentines’ dinner.
Celebrate with a movie
There will be a free showing of the movie, “Fireproof: Never Leave Your Partner Behind,” from the creators of “Facing the Giants,” on Saturday, Feb. 14, beginning at 7:15 p.m. at the Avon Fire House.
“An action-packed love story, Fireproof will have audiences laughing, crying, and inching toward the edge of their seats as they are drawn into the world of a firefighter, his wife and a marriage worth rescuing,” according to a review on SizzlingPopcorn.com. Desserts, coffee, and soft drinks will be provided.
Celebrate with Shopping
Indian Town Gallery will be hosting a special Valentines’ Day Party on February 14th from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at their shop in Frisco. Stop by for a last minute gift and enjoy an assortment of finger foods and beverages, 30% discounts on all jewelry during the party, and Natural Make-up Consultations offered by the In Touch Massage and Wellness Center. There will also be a drawing for $20, $30 and $50 gift certificates.
Celebrate with Oysters
Just in time for Valentines’ Day, there are two local festivals celebrating oysters this weekend. Help spark the love of Jockey’s Ridge State Park on Saturday, Feb. 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. when the Friends of Jockey’s Ridge hosts the first Annual George Barnes Valentine’s Day Oyster Reef and Roast.
Bring the family, your work gloves, your work ethic, and your appetite and help bag shells to create new oyster environments for our sounds. You’ll be rewarded with plenty of cooked oysters, fellowship and fun. The event takes place rain or shine in the main parking lot of Jockey’s Ridge State Park, milepost 12 at the Park entrance on Carolista Drive in Nags Head. There is no charge to attend. In Stumpy Point, visitors can rekindle their love of oysters with the 24th Annual Stumpy Point Oyster Feast, Sponsored by Bayview Chapel and held at the Stumpy Point Community Center from 12 p.m. – 5 pm. Enjoy all you can eat fried and steamed oysters, fried fish, and all the trimmings for an entire afternoon. Adult tickets are $25, and children 10 & under are just $10.
