Think of a surfing movie and what comes to mind? Better yet, think of an iconic movie poster that features surfers…. That’s right, The Endless Summer. A cult classic that gave birth to “surf travel” culture encouraging surfers to go beyond their home break. Filmmaker Bruce Brown followed surfers Mike Hynson and Robert August and their friends on a surfing trip, following summer around the world and discovering new and uncrowded waves in spectacular places. It wasn’t just a movie for surfers. Roger Ebert, after viewing it recognized it’s impact and wondered if “Hollywood hasn’t been trying too hard”.
To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the original release of the movie, Real Watersports in Waves is hosting “Endless Summer Weekend” with Robert August May 23-26th. There will be live music all weekend long, Robert August Surfboard and SUP Demos, an Autograph Session and an opportunity to watch the movie with the star himself, Mr. Robert August, as he narrates the behind the scenes events, comedy and session stories. This is something that surfers or surf culture enthusiasts of any level will not want to miss.
