Entry to Dare County and to Currituck County’s Outer Banks continues to be restricted. Significant portions of Dare County are still experiencing hazardous road conditions and power outages. Access to Dare County will be permitted only for the following – – –
Priority One – Essential Personnel – including essential personnel for utilities, government, medical and damage assessment.
Priority Two – Permanent Residents & Essential Personnel for Critical Businesses – Permanent Residents will be allowed reentry with a valid NC driver’s license with a local address or a current County property tax receipt.
Residents attempting travel between the Bonner Bridge and Rodanthe are advised to use extreme caution due to large amounts of sand and water on NC Highway 12. NCDOT is working to address the situation. Until conditions improve, only residents and essential personnel with permits should attempt to travel this area and do so only in high profile 4-wheel drive vehicles.
INFORMATION ABOUT CLOSURES AND SERVICES – – –
National Park Service
The National Park Service reports that there are no planned openings of any visitor services or facilities today, 10/10/16, for Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, or Wright Brothers National Memorial. Safety assessments were started yesterday afternoon, and work crews are on the grounds this morning to begin necessary clean-up and repairs. Services and facilities will reopen once clean-up and repairs are completed, and as staff are able to return to work.
Town of Duck
Sanitation pick-up has been changed from Monday, Oct. 10 to Tuesday, October 11. Recycling is occuring on Monday as scheduled. Duck Rd within Duck is passable, but many side roads are flooded. Duck Town offices are closed today, however damage assessment is underway.
Town of Kill Devil Hills
There will be no sanitation collections on Monday, October 10, 2016. Please do not place refuse carts at roadside until further notice. The Kill Devil Hills Town Hall and support offices and services will be closed on Monday, October 10, 2016, with the exception of essential and emergency response personnel. At this time, we anticipate following our regular business hours, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2016. Hurricane Matthew has left behind a great deal of stormwater, high tides, and debris. Hazardous conditions still exist. On behalf of the Mayor and Board of Commissioners, please remain cautious and vigilant during this uncertain time.
Town of Nags Head
A few reminders from the Town of Nags Head – please continue to avoid travel, if possible operate all generators outdoors, check on your neighbors, the elderly, and the infirm
Trash Pickup
Residents and businesses that receive trash pickup service from Dare County Public Works are advised that trash will not be collected Monday.
Dare County Offices
All Dare County Offices are closed Monday.
Clerk of Court
The Dare County Clerks Office is closed Monday. Anyone needing to file may go to the Magistrates Office located at 1044 Driftwood Drive in Manteo (252) 475-9228. All questions or concerns may be directed to Dare County Clerk of Court Dean Tolson at (252)216-7114.
Dare County Transportation Department
Transportation services provided by the Dare County Transportation Department are cancelled for Monday.
Flu Clinic
The Flu Clinic scheduled for Tuesday morning at the Dare County Baum Center will be rescheduled for a date and time to be determined.
