The Eastern Surfing Championships (ESAs) will be September 21 – September 27, with September 28 as a back-up day. The ESAs, which typically determine the contenders for the USA championship, are held in Cape Hatteras on the Outer Banks of North Carolina every fall, as the excellent surfing conditions are considered the best on the East Coast, attracting surfers from all over the world.
This year’s ESAs will not be the qualifier for the USA championships as the date was moved up, however the 2009 all star team will be selected after the event. Male and female, professional and amateur surfers of all ages will flock to the best breaks on the shore, usually the Old Lighthouse site in Buxton, to battle it out for coveted all star spots.
Contest headquarters are at the Natural Art Surf Shop parking lot on NC Highway 12 in Buxton. A welcome tent, along with contest information and a schedule will be posted there. Official contest t-shirts will be on sale all week, as will product samples from ESA sponsors.
