What a gorgeous week for fishing. With mild air temperatures in the mid-to-high 70s, and postcard perfect weather, Hatteras Island anglers were treated to a much-deserved beautiful week. The stormy days we had a couple weeks ago brought in piles of shells from Rodanthe to Ocracoke all week long, so beachcombers were treated to a great week of exploring too.
The drum run continues on the island, and bluefish have been everywhere for the beach fishermen. The blues might not always be the biggest catch on the beach, but at least no one left the shore empty handed.
Here’s what local anglers have been reeling in on Hatteras Island:
Rodanthe, Waves & Salvo: Blues, Puppy Drum
Avon: Gray Trout, Puppy Drum, Few Specks, blues
Cape Point: Blues, Few Spanish, Blowtoads, Sea Mullet, 61″ Cobia, Puppy drum (including 45″ drum)
Hatteras: Blues
From the Piers:
Rodanthe Pier: Blues, Flounder, Pompano, Sheepshead, 29″cobia
Avon Pier: Blues, Spot, Spanish, Croakers, Black Drum
Cape Hatteras Pier in Frisco: Blues, Spot, Specks, Gray Trout, Small Flounder, puppy drum
Offshore: Good fishing everywhere! – large yellowfin tuna and wahoo were reeled in. Blackfin tunas, dolphin and king mackerel were also caught, and a white marlin was caught and released.
