If you’re spending Thanksgiving on Hatteras Island and want to bring a local touch to the table, then check out the Coastal Harvester’s first annual Farmer’s Market on Tuesday, November 24th, 10 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
The event will be held at the Fesseden Center next to Dillon’s Corner in Buxton, rain or shine, and will feature an ocean of fresh veggies and fresh baked goods to make your island Thanksgiving a little something special.“We’re going to have a really nice mixture of off island and on island vendors,” says Joanne Throne, Coastal Harvesters Director. “We’re getting beautiful veggies from farms off the island, and also showcasing our own talent from right here on the Outer Banks.”
Three mainland farms, from Engelhard, Jarvisburg and Edenton, will offer tables of fresh seasonal veggies, including spinach, garlic, winter squash, potatoes, collards, kale, broccoli, and more. There will also be organic meats available from homegrown Weeping Radish Organic Farms, and the “Bee Lady” of Wancheese Honey will be selling fresh honey from her farm.
There will also be a variety of baked goods and desserts from right here on Hatteras Island. Out Back Kitchens will offer an array of home baked foods, like meat pies, and a number of other local chefs and bakers will be serving fresh baked pies, breads and desserts. Outer Banks Sea Salt will make its debut with fresh sea salt from the Atlantic, and local crafts, including fresh holiday wreathes and 100% wool products for chilly beach evenings, will be featured as well. There’s even a cooking demo at 12:00 p.m. for a little holiday meal inspiration with fresh local ingredients, like oysters and scallops.
Everyone is welcome to attend this free, fun farmer’s market and stock up on fresh ingredients for a truly local Outer Banks Thanksgiving feast.
