Time to Evacuate is Now
The mandatory evacuation for all residents and visitors in Dare County remains in effect. Now is the time to make final preparations and implement your evacuation plan. Many areas along the East Coast are now under evacuation orders, so it is important to leave sooner rather than later to allow plenty of time to travel safely to your destination. Check the route you will be traveling since many inland areas will be impacted.
Hurricane Florence is forecast to remain a dangerous major hurricane and make landfall in North Carolina late Thursday into early Friday. There is still some uncertainty regarding the track forecast, but confidence continues to increase in Eastern North Carolina seeing significant to potentially life threatening impacts, including extreme storm surge with ocean overwash, rainfall flooding, winds and tornadoes. A hurricane watch and a storm surge watch are currently in effect.
