NC Highway 12 is Closed at Oregon Inlet due to Ocean Overwash

Dare County Emergency Management is closely monitoring conditions caused by Hurricane Sandy. NC Highway 12, on Hatteras Island at Oregon Inlet, is closed due to sand and water on the roadway.

Ocean overwash will continue to be a problem throughout the day on NC Highway 12. Motorists are advised to use caution and be alert for water and sand overwash on highways throughout Dare County.

Winds from Hurricane Sandy are expected to shift later this afternoon and cause soundside flooding of 3 to 5 feet throughout Dare County. More information about the threat of flooding will be included in the next Hurricane Sandy update at 9:30 a.m. this morning.
