While December is a slow time of year around here, there are plenty of local holiday events to keep visitors, locals and homeowners entertained and in the holiday spirit. If you’re enjoying a holiday vacation, why not check out these events that are in the neighborhood.
Breakfast with Santa on Dec. 6
The annual Breakfast with Santa will be Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Hatteras Civic Center. There will be two seatings at 8:30 a.m. and at 10:00 a.m. Breakfast will include eggs, bacon, pancakes, fruit, and other goodies. The cost is $5 for children and $8 for adults. Daniel Pullen Photography will be taking photos of the young ones with Santa. Tickets are available at the Breakwater Inn or at the door, and all proceeds benefit the Hatteras Community Preschool.
Christmas party at Buxton village books
The Buxton Village Books Christmas Party is Wednesday, Dec 10, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Expect a buffet of food and treats, served under the sparkling tents, and lots of great sales inside the store. Music will be provided by The Frisco Jubilee, and the local musicians will also be offering a CD of Christmas music with the proceeds benefiting the Carey Lesieur Scholarship Fund. And, of course, Santa will be there too. Stop by to visit with friends and neighbors.
Hatteras Christmas Parade and dance will be Dec. 13
The Hatteras Village Civic Association will sponsor the annual Hatteras Village Christmas Parade and dance on Saturday, Dec. 13, in Hatteras village. The parade will begin at Teach’s Lair Marina at 2:00 p.m. and the parade route continues through the village and ends at the Hatterasman Drive-In. Everyone is invited to the Civic Center after the parade for home-baked cookies and hot chocolate, and to hear the announcement of the parade winners.
Later that night, there will be a Mardi Gras-themed dance at the Civic Center from 9:00 p.m. until midnight, featuring live music from the Wilmington-based band Carolina Treble Hook. Admission is $5 a person and light refreshments and setups will be provided. The Civic Association is providing transportation to and from the dance, with Island Hopper Shuttle Services. You must call Island Hopper to make your reservations.
