OBX Events August 4-12

Activities and entertainment await you here on the OBX! There are many exciting events to keep you and your party entertained all week long! There is truly something for everyone! Be sure to check out our list for the week and mark your calendars!



SATURDAY, AUGUST 4

Relay for Life, Camp Hatteras, Rodanthe.
~Walk begins at 10am. Meet at the playground. 1 lap=$5, 2 laps=$10, 3 laps=$15. Spaghetti dinner, $8/plate.

Fish Fry, Hatteras Village and Avon Village, 5-7pm.
~Does fried local fish, hushpuppies, cole slaw, and potato salad sound like the perfect Hatteras Island dinner? We think so! Head to the Hatteras Fire Station at 57689 Hwy 12 or the Avon Fire Station at 40159 Harbor Rd. for a delicious meal, hosted by the Ladies Auxilary.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 5

11th Annual OBX Sandbar 5k, Kitty Hawk.
~Set on the flat sands in front of the historic “Old Station” public bath house.

ALL WEEK LONG

National Park Service programs, Hatteras Island.

YOGA on the beach, Beach Klub, Avon, 8-9:30am.
~Bring a yoga mat and get your day started off on the right track!

Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum Summer Programs, Hatteras.
~Monday-Friday, programs are offered by Friends of the Graveyard of the Atlantic for further exploration and discovery if our maritime heritage. For complete information and details, visit the Museum on the web.

Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station Summer Programs, Rodanthe, 2pm.
~Monday-Friday at 2pm, join The Chicamacomico Historical Association for an afternoon of entertainment ranging from talks with local historians to dramatic demonstrations by the U.S. Coast Guard. Visit the Station’s website for program details.

Studio 12, Avon.
~Feeling creative? Studio 12 offers lots of fun classes, including mosaic stepping stones, glass fusion picture frames, suncatchers, and jewelry. Be sure to visit their website for class details.

MONDAY, AUGUST 6

~Enjoy free LIVE music with a spectacular view in a family/group friendly atmosphere.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 7

Hatteras Island Farmer’s Market, Avon, 9am-1pm.

REAL Watersports Kids Camp, Waves, Tues.-Thurs., 10am-4pm.
~Kids ages 7-12 will have a chance to learn how to have fun and be confident in the water! They will experience paddleboarding, kiteboarding, and surfing, with an emphasis on water safety. Cost is $595 per child, which includes lunch from Mojo’s Sunset Cafe. Click here to sign up!

Kitty Hawk Kites Kid’s Day, Avon 10am-12pm, Hatteras, 3-5pm.
~A fun-filled free opportunity to climb a rock wall, shoot water guns, have your face painted, and try out the latest toys and games!

FREE Soundside Snorkel, 2:30-4pm.
~Pre register in person at the Hatteras Island Museum. All equipment will be provided. Limited to 20 participants. For more information, call 995-4474.

Avon Jamboree featuring The 5th St.Four, PapaWack Theatre, Beach Klub, Avon, 6-8pm.
~FREE admission. Enjoy drinks at the oceanfront bar, grab a bite to eat at the concession stand, and enjoy the pool!

The Lost Colony, Waterside Theatre, Manteo, Tues.-Sat., 8:30pm.
~Pulitzer Prize winning playwright, Paul Green recounts the historical events leading to the disappearance of the first English colonists who settled on Roanoke Island over 400 years ago. This is a production you don’t want to miss. Visit The Lost Colony for more info and tickets.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 8

Bird Adaptations program, Pea Island Visitor Center, 2:30-3:30pm.
~Learn about the adaptations birds need in order to survive, then try your hand at building your own bird.

Kitty Hawk Kites Kid’s Day, Waves 4-6pm.
~A fun-filled free opportunity to climb a rock wall, shoot water guns, have your face painted, and try out the latest toys and games!

~Ages 13-19. $5/teen.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 9

OBX Watermelon Festival, Kitty Hawk Kites, Nags Head.
~Activities for all ages including a dunk tank, moon bounce, inflatable obstacle course, pie eating contests,t-shirt tye dying, face painting, food vendors, music and of course WATERMELON! Proceeds from the Watermelon Festival go directly to the Wright Flight Foundation, a local non-profit that rewards 5th graders who achieve their academic goals, with flight.

~Featuring over 35 local artists…Fresh local fish fry starting @ 5pm.

Surfing for Autism, Jennette’s Pier, Nags Head.
~Surfing for Autism is an autism/asperger’s awareness event that provides our children with an amazing opportunity to surf. Each child is provided two surfers and a skilled therapist of teacher who are well educatd on the special needs of our children with autism.

Surfing for Autism, Jennette’s Pier, Nags Head.
~Surfing for Autism is an autism/asperger’s awareness event that provides our children with an amazing opportunity to surf. Each child is provided two surfers and a skilled therapist of teacher who are well educatd on the special needs of our children with autism.

2nd Saturday, Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum, Hatteras.

~This Saturday’s theme is “Fishing” featuring artists’ exhibits, including hands on activities.

23rd Annual Alice Kelly Memorial Ladies Only Billfish Tournament.
~Leading up to the Pirate’s Cove Billfish Tournament the ladies get their turn to reel in the Big One! The Alice Kelly Tournament is an annual event the Sunday before the Billfish Tournament.

U. S. Coast Guard to perform Historic Breeches Buoy Reenactment

This Thursday, October 25 at 2pm, the USCG will perform the Historic Breeches Buoy Reenactment in a special post-season beach apparatus drill.
