The OBX Wavefest, held September 15 – 29, was a mixture of gorgeous breezy days, a couple stormy days, and a few surprisingly windless days. While the majority of the freeform days were perfect for boarding attendees to hone their skills across the Atlantic, the three day Wave Challenge tournament was rescheduled to October 11 – 13th, Columbus Day weekend.
Bill Bell, who updates the status of the OBX Wavefest regularly on his blog, and is one of the organizers of the festival, thinks the new October date will bring out great winds, and even greater kiteboarding. “Hopefully we will score with some wind and surf,” he says.
The tentative location for the challenge will be Ego beach, across from Canadian Hole in between Avon and Buxton, though this is subject to change based on where the best conditions are located. For updates on 2008 Wave Fest, visit http://76.12.58.121/projects/wavefest/
Spectators can drop in during the Wave Challenge and watch an amazing display of wavesailing as the riders flip, cut, and churn their way through the ocean surf. Bring a camera, as it’s sure to be quite an impressive sight.
