Surf or Sound Realty is happy to announce that our Avon and Salvo offices will serve as drop-off locations for the Hatteras Island Food Pantry. From November through New Year’s, locals, visitors and homeowners can drop off non-perishable items, including food items, toiletries, pet food, and other every day necessities at either office location. These donations go to a very worthy cause: local families who are having trouble making ends meet.
Our Avon office is located across the street from the Avon Pier, and our Salvo office is located on the corner of NC 12 and Rampart Street. Both offices feature clearly marked food pantry boxes in the lobby for donations.
This year, donations are especially appreciated as the demand on the Hatteras Island Food Pantry has reached a record high, unprecedented in the organization’s 18 year history. So far, 98 people representing 34 families have requested help from the food pantry – a 216% increase over last year.
If you would like to donate, Surf or Sound Realty’s Marcia Laricos, who is actively involved with the food pantry, recommends donating items that work together. “We need combinations, like pasta and pasta sauce, pancake mix and maple syrup: food items that can make a complete meal,” she says.
