Driving past the building in Avon, you wouldn’t guess the warm wood and industrial/artistic interior of Turner’s High Moon Bar lies just inside the glass door. Hand-crafted cocktails made with fresh, herb-infused house-made syrups and freshly squeezed juices are just one thing that make this place special. “It’s a fun place”, explains Bar Manager, April Groskopf, “we’ve been able to connect with some great local musicians.” You can hear live music here most every night in the summer and three nights a week in the off season (they’re open year-round).
Opened in the Spring of 2014, the Avon establishment has been a welcome addition to the Outer Banks nightlife scene. The bar opens at 5 and stays open until midnight or later most evenings with the exception of Sundays when they open at noon for their popular Bloody Mary bar.
Serving a limited menu from nearby restaurants, drinks are the focus here. Besides expertly crafted cocktails, there are 6 wines on tap and 21 microbrews on draft including the wildly popular “Not Your Father’s Root Beer”. They offer beer and wine by the bottle to go and will even fill your growler with one of their draft microbrews.
If you can’t get down soon enough, don’t fear – they’ve shared a recipe for their most popular cocktail, the Lunar Lemonade, for you to make at home.
