Hatteras Island Arts & Crafts Show is Nov. 27-28

Hatteras Island Arts & Crafts Guild will have an arts and crafts show on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 27-28, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Cape Hatteras Secondary School on Highway 12 in Buxton.

This is an annual event to help locals and visitors alike get a jump start on their Christmas shopping island style. The show will feature work by dozens of renowned local artists, artisans, photographers, and craftsmen. Admission is free, and everyone is welcome to stop by and browse the array of works, or purchase some island inspired art and crafts to take home. Lunch and snacks will be available for a small fee. Surf Fishing Tournament celebrates island fishing at its finest

The best surf fishing teams on the East Coast got into the breakers on Hatteras Island this morning to start the 52nd annual Cape Hatteras Angler’s Club Invitational Surf Fishing Tournament.

With 120 teams, this is the premier surf fishing tournament in the United States, and arguably the world. Continue reading

Wings over Water Wildlife Festival runs from Nov. 3-8

The 13th annual Wings Over Water Wildlife Festival, a celebration of wildlife and wild lands in Eastern North Carolina, will run from Tuesday, Nov. 3, until Sunday, Nov. 8. Halloween parade and party planned on Hatteras Island

On Saturday, Oct. 31, a Halloween parade and party marks the spooky season in Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo.

Children are invited to wear costumes for the parade which starts at 2 p.m. at the North Beach Campground in Rodanthe and passes along Highway 12 to the villages’ Community Center for the party. The party features a costume fashion show, games and lots of fun. Continue reading

Two Surf or Sound Realty homes showcased in the 2009 Parade of Homes

The 17th Annual Outer Banks Parade of Homes kicked off on October 8th, and Surf or Sound Realty is delighted to announce that two of our premier rental homes are represented in this year’s tour: #683 Rising Sun and #684 Moonshine.

The Parade of Homes showcases the finest properties on the Outer Banks, and the Outer Banks Home Builders Association (OBHBA) is anticipating approximately 1,500 attendees. The event lasts until Sunday, October 11th, and all 29 homes participating, from Currituck to southern Hatteras Island, are open from 10am – 6pm on all four days. Continue reading

Wahoo Hoo-Ha! Hatteras Tournament celebrates music and fishing

Page Skelton, creator of the original Cackalacky condiment brand and the Booze Bait fishing lure company, will be donating his unique products to the Music Maker Relief Foundation’s upcoming fishing tournament and fundraiser.

The fishing tournament and benefit, called the Wahoo Hoo-Ha!, will take place in Hatteras, NC on October 16th and 17th. The weekend event will culminate in an awards dinner on Saturday evening followed by a concert featuring Cool John Ferguson, Big Ron Hunter & Captain Luke at the Hatteras Community Center. Pullen’s photography is featured in Surf or Sound Realty’s website and vacation home catalog, and he works with Surf or Sound rental guests on family portraits and special event photo sessions. 2009’s Day at the Docks in Hatteras Village a Sunny Success

The ideal sunny weather brought out the largest crowd yet at the 5th annual Day at the Docks, a celebration of Hatteras Island Watermen, which was held on Saturday, October 19th.

Hundreds of visitors spent a beautiful late summer day wandering up and down Hatteras village’s working waterfront, looking at boats, eating, watching the various races and competitions that took place, and enjoying the bands that played all afternoon. Continue reading

East Coast Surfing Championships begin on Hatteras Island

In surfing circles, the popularity of the East Coast Surfing Championships is unparalleled. But when it comes to importance for amateur surfers, the Eastern Surfing Association’s Grand Championships is the highlight of the year, and every year the championship begins on Hatteras Island.

The 42nd Easterns start Monday, September 21, in Buxton near the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse on Hatteras Island. The competition continues on the Buxton beach through Saturday. Continue reading
