Hatteras Island had 6 inches of snow in some areas of the island on Saturday January 22nd 2011 according to the Weather Service after an entire day of snow fall with wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour. This was the biggest snow storm since 2003 when 10 inches of snowfall were recorded. This rare event was enjoyed by many islanders as you can see from the photos below submitted by Surf or Sound staff.
