NPS Offers Full Moon Tour of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse

As a special experience for the visiting public and local communities, the National Park Service will be offering Full Moon Tours of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse the evening of April 28. Two tours will be given, one at 8:15 p.m. and a second at 9:15 p.m., each tour is limited to 30 people. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Full Moon Tour ticket sales will start on Monday, April 26. The lighthouse ticket booth is open from 8:15 a.m. to 4:40 p.m. daily. Full Moon Tour tickets are non-refundable. Continue reading

12th annual Powwow in Frisco will include living history events

The nature trail at the Frisco Native American Museum & Natural History Center will once again echo with the haunting music of drums when the 12th annual Inter-Tribal Powwow, Journey Home, takes place on Saturday and Sunday, April 24 and 25. the event is a weekend of music, dancing, storytelling, demonstrations, crafts, native food, and much more. Buxton Ball Field To Be Dedicated On Saturday

Dare County and Hatteras Island Babe Ruth Baseball will host a ceremony on Saturday, April 17 at 1 p.m. to dedicate the ball field in Buxton to Maurice Lennon “Dick” Burrus. All are invited to attend.

Burrus, born in Hatteras Village in 1898, was a local baseball player who played in the major leagues. He and his parents, Captain Ethelbert Dozier Burrus and Achsah Williams Burrus, lived in a home on the Slash behind Hatteras Methodist Church. Continue reading

Cape Hatteras Lighthouse To Open Friday, April 16, 2010

The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse will open to the public for climbing from April 16 through Columbus Day, October 11, 2010. Climbing fees for the Lighthouse will be $7 per adult, and $3.50 for children under 12 and senior citizens. The opening day of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse will continue to be a “fee-free” day, as it has in the past, for local community members to climb the Lighthouse. Continue reading
