Thanksgiving Holiday Events on Hatteras Island
Two fun events make visiting Hatteras Island twice as nice this Thanksgiving weekend! The Annual Arts and Craft show is slated for Friday and Saturday, November 26-27 from 10am to 4pm at the Cape Hatteras Secondary School, located right off Hwy 12 in Buxton. Browse work by local artists, artisans, photographers and craftpersons. Seven original works of art will be raffled off to benefit the local high school students. Admission is free and lunch and snacks will be available. The arts and craft show is always a great place to start your holiday shopping early!
Santa Claus himself will be at the Chicamacomico Life Saving Station’s season’s end festivities and open house at the site and museum in Rodanthe village on Friday, November 26th. This is the last event of the 2010 season before the site closes for the winter, so it is a great opportunity to see what a special historical treasure we have right here on Hatteras Island. Everyone is invited to attend and admission is free if you bring a non-perishable item for the Hatteras Island Food Pantry. The site opens at 10am and festivities will conclude at 3pm. The highlight of the day is the arrival of Santa Claus on the Salvo Volunteer Fire Department’s bright red fire truck. He is scheduled to arrive at 1pm and visit with all the children until 3pm. Bring the entire family and enjoy complimentary refreshments and hot beverages. You can even do a little holiday shopping at the on-site gift shop, which will be conducting a huge sale for the event.
