U. S. Coast Guard to perform Historic Breeches Buoy Reenactment

This Thursday, October 25 at 2pm, the USCG will perform the Historic Breeches Buoy Reenactment in a special post-season beach apparatus drill. The demonstration will be held at the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station and Museum in Rodanthe and will begin promptly at 2pm. Please allow plenty of time to park, get tickets, and get to the program start area. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for seniors (62+) or youth (6-17).

Meet the "Real" Taffy

OBX Killer Dunes 2 Mile Run/Walk, Jockey’s Ridge State Park, Nags Head.
~The largest state park in NC and the largest moving sand dunes on the East Coast! There will also be a 1/4 mile fun run. For more info, check out the event website.

Avon’s 4th of July Fireworks at the Beach

3rd Annual “4th in the Village” celebration, Hatteras, 3-11pm.
~Sponsored by the Hatteras Village Civic Association and the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation, this event will include food, music, art, and games. There will also be a band from 7-11pm.
9th Annual Independence Day celebration, Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Community Building, 2pm.
~Community members and visitors will join together to sing patriotic songs and hear a reading of the Declaration of Independence. A watermelon feast will follow. Sponsored by the villages’ civic association.

Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station Summer Programs

Each afternoon of the summer (Monday-Friday) from May 28th-August 31st, The Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station will be hosting a wide range of programs for all to enjoy!
Programs begin at 2pm. All programs are outdoors and will be held weather permitting. Programs are FREE with the regualr site admission of $6 for Adults and $4 for Seniors 62+ and Youth 6-17.

Monday- Nights in Rodanthe movie- Behind the Scenes
~Meet with a cast member of the Nights in Rodanthe set and get her autograph! You will also be able to view the movie site from the Chicamacomico Station!
Tuesday- America’s Forgotten Heroes
~Explore the fascinating history of the U.S. Life-Saving Service through their awe-inspiring tales of rescue, right here on our shores!
Wednesday- The Real Taffy of Torpedo Junction
~Taffy was the main character in a popular children’s book published back in the ’50’s. Along with Taffy, you will get to explore Hatteras Island during World War II. During your visit to the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station, you will have a chance to meet the real Taffy, Carol Dillion, whom this fictional novel was written about many years ago. Truly fascinating!
Thursday- Beach Apparatus Drill
~Watch the men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard practice the weekly “Breeches Buoy Rescue Reenactment” method. Chicamacomico is now the ONLY place in the world that performs the complete Drill, including live black powder firing and live shot. Come be a part of U.S. history!
Friday- What Really Happened to the “Lost Colony“?
~Wonder where everyone went? Join Scott Dawson for a compelling talk based on documentation and evidence!
