Last minute preparations for Serendipity move

Last minute preparations happen in front of a small but excited crowd. The pilings are being cut away from Serendipity, which is scheduled to be “on the road” and start moving at 2:00 p.m.

Rodanthe Movie House "Serendipity" Sold and Saved

The beachfront house featured in the movie “Nights in Rodanthe” will soon have a new home itself, thanks to a bail bondsman who fell in love with the surf-threatened house after his wife bought the movie for him as a Christmas present last year. Continue reading

Just in time for Valentines' Day – Nights in Rodanthe is coming February 10

If you missed your opportunity to see the 2008 Richard Gere and Diane Lane movie Nights in Rodanthe in the theaters, or simply want to see the beautiful beach background again, then there’s good news coming your way. Nights in Rodanthe will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on February 10th.

Portions of the movie were filmed in Rodanthe in 2006, and residents and frequent visitors alike will recognize a number of local landmarks, including the Rodanthe Pier, and “Serendipity,” the most northern home on Hatteras Island and the setting of the fictional bed and breakfast where the movie takes place. New documentary to be filmed on Pea Island

While the upcoming Richard Gere and Diane Lane movie “Nights in Rodanthe” is drawing lots of attention, it’s not the only film in the works that centers around Hatteras Island.
Alan Smith of Dreamworks Productions and his crew are planning an October trip to Hatteras Island, (their 4th trip in 2008), for the filming of their upcoming documentary “The Rescue Men: The Story of the Pea Island Lifesavers.” The film is based on the 2001 book “Fire on the Beach: Recovering the Lost Story of Richard Etheridge and the Pea Island Lifesavers” by David Wright and David Zoby. Nights in Rodanthe: The reviews are in.

Love it or loathe it, one thing that all critics across the country agreed on is that the Outer Banks is certainly one terrific spot to film a romantic movie. As the reviews of the new Richard Gere and Diane Lane film Nights in Rodanthe pour in, almost all critics comment on the beautiful setting, regardless of whether they liked the movie or not.

Picture of the week

The Mirlo Beach Cottage Serendipity was transformed during the filming of “Nights in Rodanthe” to the Inn at Rodanthe. The Inn was one of the locations in the novel by Nicholas Sparks, and the location of several of the scenes in the movie with Richard Gere and Diane Lane.

“Nights in Rodanthe” From Hatteras to Hollywood

Outer Banks residents will be among the first to see the new Richard Gere and Diane Lane movie, “Nights in Rodanthe”, with a special pre-screening 2 days after the premier in New York City, and 2 days before the movie is scheduled to hit theaters nationwide and in Canada.
Based on the book by Nicholas Sparks, Nights in Rodanthe was filmed partly in Rodanthe at “Serendipity,” the most northern oceanfront home on Hatteras Island, and the location of the fictional inn that is the main setting of the book and movie. Locals and frequent visitors who have seen the early previews have been pleasantly surprised to see locales they know well, like the long stretch of NC Highway 12 in between the Bonner Bridge and Rodanthe, and glimpses of the Rodanthe Pier.
