7 Parties and 7 Bands at REAL Kiteboarding’s Triple-S Event

REAL Kiteboarding is hosting its annual Triple-S Event this week, June 5th – 11th, a kiteboarding competition that includes some of the best kiteboarders from around the world.

Buxton Ball Field To Be Dedicated On Saturday

Dare County and Hatteras Island Babe Ruth Baseball will host a ceremony on Saturday, April 17 at 1 p.m. to dedicate the ball field in Buxton to Maurice Lennon “Dick” Burrus. All are invited to attend.

Burrus, born in Hatteras Village in 1898, was a local baseball player who played in the major leagues. He and his parents, Captain Ethelbert Dozier Burrus and Achsah Williams Burrus, lived in a home on the Slash behind Hatteras Methodist Church. Continue reading

Torpedo Junction – Shipwrecks of WWI and WWII Presentation to be held at Salvo Volunteer Fire Station

The National Park Service Outer Banks Group Know Your Park citizen science program series continues with a presentation from Joe Hoyt from the Monitor National Marine Sanctuary on Wednesday, January 20 at 7:00 p.m. at the Salvo Volunteer Fire Station. Hatteras Island Farmer’s Market will be November 24th

If you’re spending Thanksgiving on Hatteras Island and want to bring a local touch to the table, then check out the Coastal Harvester’s first annual Farmer’s Market on Tuesday, November 24th, 10 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

The event will be held at the Fesseden Center next to Dillon’s Corner in Buxton, rain or shine, and will feature an ocean of fresh veggies and fresh baked goods to make your island Thanksgiving a little something special. Continue reading

Halloween parade and party planned on Hatteras Island

On Saturday, Oct. 31, a Halloween parade and party marks the spooky season in Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo.

Children are invited to wear costumes for the parade which starts at 2 p.m. at the North Beach Campground in Rodanthe and passes along Highway 12 to the villages’ Community Center for the party. The party features a costume fashion show, games and lots of fun. Continue reading

Chili Cook-off will be September 19

Linda Browning will offer watercolor workshop

Linda Meyer Browning, award-winning watercolorist, photographer, and painting instructor, will be conducting a watercolor workshop for adults on Saturday, Sept. 12, and again on Monday, Sept. 14.

“Watercolor for Beginners” will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will be held at Linda’s studio in Frisco on Hatteras Island.

Attention Kids! Grab a kite and fly during Kids Kite Day in Hatteras Village!

Kitty Hawk Kites will be hosting a kite day for kids of all ages on July 23, 2009 at the Kitty Hawk Kites store in Hatteras Landing, Hatteras Village. The event is free and open to visitors and locals alike, and the fun begins at 10:00 a.m., and lasts until 4:00 p.m..

The Hatteras Kids Kite Day offers a wide range of entertaining activities for everyone who attends. Kids and their families will enjoy free kite making throughout the event. Free NC Symphony Concert on the Outer Banks

The Outer Banks welcomes for the eighth year the North Carolina Symphony Summer Pops Concert at Roanoke Island Festival Park in Manteo on June 19, 2009. Once again, this event is free to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend.
