Torpedo Junction – Shipwrecks of WWI and WWII Presentation to be held at Salvo Volunteer Fire Station

The National Park Service Outer Banks Group Know Your Park citizen science program series continues with a presentation from Joe Hoyt from the Monitor National Marine Sanctuary on Wednesday, January 20 at 7:00 p.m. at the Salvo Volunteer Fire Station. NPS Offers Full Moon Tour of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse

As a very special experience for the visiting public and local communities, the National Park Service will be offering Full Moon Tours of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse the evening of September 4, 2009.

Two tours will be given-one at 7:15 p.m. and a second at 8:15 p.m. Each tour is limited to 30 people. Tickets must be purchased in advance at the lighthouse ticket booth between 8:15 a.m. and 4:40 p.m., September 2 through September 4. Full Moon Tour tickets are non-refundable. Continue reading

Free Things to Do on Hatteras Island

One of the best aspects of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore is that a day at the beach on Hatteras Island doesn’t cost a thing. There are plenty of free public accesses all along the 70 miles of National Seashore, with lots of parking, and even shower and restroom facilities. Most folks can also find free easy beach access right outside the door of their vacation rental home, but no matter where you hit the beach, you’ll never have to pay for a long, sunny day on the sand.
