OBX Events August 4-12

Activities and entertainment await you here on the OBX! There are many exciting events to keep you and your party entertained all week long! There is truly something for everyone! Be sure to check out our list for the week and mark your calendars!



SATURDAY, AUGUST 4

Relay for Life, Camp Hatteras, Rodanthe.
~Walk begins at 10am. Meet at the playground. 1 lap=$5, 2 laps=$10, 3 laps=$15. Spaghetti dinner, $8/plate.

Fish Fry, Hatteras Village and Avon Village, 5-7pm.
~Does fried local fish, hushpuppies, cole slaw, and potato salad sound like the perfect Hatteras Island dinner? We think so! Head to the Hatteras Fire Station at 57689 Hwy 12 or the Avon Fire Station at 40159 Harbor Rd. for a delicious meal, hosted by the Ladies Auxilary.

11th Annual OBX Sandbar 5k, Kitty Hawk.
~Set on the flat sands in front of the historic “Old Station” public bath house.

~Kids ages 7-12 will have a chance to learn how to have fun and be confident in the water! They will experience paddleboarding, kiteboarding, and surfing, with an emphasis on water safety. Cost is $595 per child, which includes lunch from Mojo’s Sunset Cafe. Click here to sign up!

OBX Watermelon Festival, Kitty Hawk Kites, Nags Head.
~Activities for all ages including a dunk tank, moon bounce, inflatable obstacle course, pie eating contests,t-shirt tye dying, face painting, food vendors, music and of course WATERMELON! Proceeds from the Watermelon Festival go directly to the Wright Flight Foundation, a local non-profit that rewards 5th graders who achieve their academic goals, with flight.

~Leading up to the Pirate’s Cove Billfish Tournament the ladies get their turn to reel in the Big One! The Alice Kelly Tournament is an annual event the Sunday before the Billfish Tournament.

OBX Events July 7-15th

There is just so much to do at the beach!!! In addition to your daily adventures of fishing, surfing, kiteboarding, paddleboarding, building sandcastles, scanning the shoreline for shells, or soaking up the sun and a good book, the OBX has something to offer for every age!
We’ve compiled an extensive list of activities and events for the week that you will not want to miss!

July 7 Summer Festival, Fessenden Center, Buxton, 2-9pm.
~The Hands of Love Organization has organized an afternoon of fun, which will include live music, food, carnival games, crafts, a silent auction, and much more! Rain date set for July 8.

The Carey LeSieur Foundation is a non-profit, charitable foundation that aims to promote compassion and humanity within the local community by celebrating posthumously the life of nurse practitioner Carey Marie LeSieur and encouraging our community to remember her caring dedication. The primary mission of the foundation is to provide financial assistance in the form of scholarships to students, both college and graduate, who are engaged in a course of study whose ultimate end point will be in a career in healthcare.

There will be lots of fun events and entertainment throughout the festival at Kitty Hawk Kites. Benefit event for the prevention of skin cancer with all proceeds going to the Outer Banks Hospital. Gearing UP for Memorial Day week festivities!

Memorial Day week on the OBX will prove just how “geared up” everyone is to get this season rolling and off to an eventful start!

Indiantown Arts and Crafts Show
May 25th & May 26th (10am-6pm)

~Come and see what the village of Frisco has to offer! This arts and crafts show will showcase vendors from all over the state! Come and see what the fuss is all about and become inspired to create your own masterpiece!

THE WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT will also be selling plates of BBQ on May 26th, so stop by and grab a bite for lunch and support this worthy cause!

Endless Summer Weekend

~Join Robert August and son in their quest for the best waves Hatteras Island has to offer! Admission is FREE! There will be a surf party with LIVE music on Saturday night, and a special showing of the 1966 original film, “Endless Summer,” on Sunday night, as well as demos and autograph sessions. 1st Annual Shorebreak 5k and The Tide Pool Fun Run
May 28th @ 8am

~All are welcome to run, walk, or jog the scenic 3.1 miles through beautiful Kinnakeet Shores in Avon! The Shorebreak 5k will begin at 8am followed by The Tide Pool Fun Run on the beach. Come support each other and our community! All proceeds from this event go towards the Hatteras Island Youth Education Fund and the OBX GO FAR Children’s Health and Nutrition program.
