The above video was taken on board an inshore charter trip on the Got ‘Em charter boat on April 3rd. While cruising along Hatteras Island, a dozen dolphin approached, diving underneath and skimming the sides of the boat, and saying “hello” to the passengers on board. The recent cold spell that hit Hatteras Island brought an unexpected thrill to local and visiting surf fishermen – puppy drum.
Local fishing reports excitedly spread the news, and anglers came from Manteo to Morehead City for what several classified as the greatest run of puppy drum in anyone’s memory. The drum were literally visible in the waves as giant red blobs, and many fishermen agreed it was something out of a surf angler’s dreams. Continue reading
