Celebrate a joyful island holiday with a variety of upcoming community events

The holidays are just around the corner, and on Hatteras Island, ’tis the season to celebrate with friends and family with a variety of upcoming community events. If you’re in the Outer Banks area, check out these festive activities that are open to everyone, and get a jump start on generating a little holiday spirit.

Community Christmas Dinner in tri-villages is Dec. 5
The Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Civic Association will sponsor a Community Christmas Dinner on Saturday, Dec. 5, at 6 p.m. at the Community Building. Beautifully decorated by volunteers, the Community Building will come alive with singing and a visit from Santa. Turkey and ham are provided by the Community Building board and attendees are asked to bring a side dish or dessert.

Halloween parade and party planned on Hatteras Island

On Saturday, Oct. 31, a Halloween parade and party marks the spooky season in Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo.

Children are invited to wear costumes for the parade which starts at 2 p.m. at the North Beach Campground in Rodanthe and passes along Highway 12 to the villages’ Community Center for the party. The party features a costume fashion show, games and lots of fun. Continue reading →

Talk Like a Pirate Day is Coming

One of the greatest holidays is upon us, and it’s one that all island locals and visitors should celebrate with gusto. No, it’s not Thanksgiving, Halloween, or even the inauguration of football season. In fact, there’s a chance that there are still a few folks out there who have never heard of this internationally recognized event.

It’s Talk Like a Pirate Day, and it’s Saturday, Sept. 19.

This is a time to celebrate, mates, and on Hatteras and Ocracoke islands where we’re no strangers to the legacy of pirates, it would be a disservice to our communities not to celebrate with enthusiasm. Continue reading →
